Becoming a Child or Teen Patient: Frequently Asked Questions

Who do I call for further information or to schedule an appointment?

Please contact our office at (408) 402-0450. One of our friendly front office staff will be happy to assist you.

Which doctor will I see?

Both Dr. Ramakrishna and Dr. Schwartz as well as all of our clinical therapists evaluate and treat our children and adolescent patients. Who you or your child sees will depend upon your specific needs and requests.

How long will my initial evaluation take?

A typical psychiatric evaluation consists of four 50-minute appointments. The doctor will meet with parents for an hour first, followed by one hour with the child or teen. The doctor will then order whatever testing she feels is indicated. Your child or teen will spend the third appointment with the doctor or another pediatric professional (depending on availability of the schedule) to complete the diagnostic testing. At the fourth appointment the psychiatrist will be meet with parents to review all the findings, and the report, and answer any questions you may have.

Will my treatment begin right away?

Treatment will often begin immediately following your initial evaluation appointment. However, this will depend upon your specific situation and should be discussed with your doctor.

What if I have other questions?
